The district of Couvin has much to offer: streams, lakes and deep forests, gathered in a unique natural backdrop.
It unites 3 geographic areas, each with it a totally different fauna and flora: the "Fagnes" (Fens) and their smooth wooded valleys; the "Calestienne", the proud limestone region with rocky hills and dry grasslands; and the Ardennes, Wallonia's impressive forested massive.
Stretching over an area of 20.000 hectare of which 25% id covered with trees, Couvin is one of Belgium's most wooded districts.
Situated downhill from a steep rock formation and cradled by the Eau Noire, Couvin has wonderfully preserved its past.
Besides the lively modern tourist and commercial infrastructures there is the "Old Couvin", formerly protected by the city walls. A stroll takes you along the old covered market and the 18th and 19th century residences.
Each of the 12 villages of the district as well as Mariembourg, the second borough, are very picturesque. Their rich heritage bathes in a soothing stillness.
Farm cottages, guest chambers and hotels provide quality accommodation. Their owners are bon vivants ready to share the quality of life of their region with their guests.
Going on a break and discovering Couvin's generous nature is easy thanks to an elaborate network of hiking routes and mountain bike trails.
